Hyü-'ma-nə-tē

Today’s post is going to be short and simple. A return to the basics, as it were. A definition of humanity (plus one interesting factoid).

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the first definition of the four listed is this:

1) compassionate, sympathetic, or generous behavior or disposition : the quality or state of being humane

This, to me, is what embracing our humanity is all about — showing compassion and kindness to other human beings; understanding we all have good and bad days by showing a bit of sympathy; helping others when and where we can through generosity. And, finally, simply being humane with each other.

Factoid: The first known use of humanity is from the 14th century. It was used to convey a moral or social quality—compassion, politeness, or humane conduct.

Until next week.
